Album

Rum Sodomy & the Lash is the second studio album by the London-based folk punk band The Pogues, released on 5 August 1985. The album reached number 13 in the UK charts. The track A Pair of Brown Eyes, based on an older Irish tune, reached number 72 in the UK singles chart. The Old Main Drag later appeared on the soundtrack to the film My Own Private Idaho. Rum Sodomy & The Lash - The Pogues. Лента с персональными рекомендациями и музыкальными новинками, радио, подборки на любой вкус, удобное управление своей коллекцией. Rum Sodomy & the Lash also found Shane MacGowan growing steadily as a songwriter while the debut had its moments, the blazing and bitter roar of the opening track, The Sick Bed of Cúchulainn, made it clear MacGowan had fused the intelligent anger of punk and the sly storytelling of Irish folk as no one had before, and the rent boys' serenade of The. Old Main Drag and the dazzling, drunken character sketch of A Pair of Brown Eyes proved there were plenty of directions where he could take his gifts. Rum Sodomy & the Lash falls just a bit short of being the Pogues' best album, but was the first one to prove that they were a great band, and not just a great idea for a band. Rum Sodomy & the Lash is the second album by the Anglo-Irish musical group The Pogues, released in 1985. The title is taken from a quote often attributed to Winston Churchill Don't talk to me about naval tradition. It's nothing but rum, sodomy, and the lash. Singer and primary songwriter Shane MacGowan claimed that the title was suggested by drummer Andrew Ranken. The Very Best of The Pogues. 30:30 The Essential Collection. Peace & Love. Peles
This album is a joy from start to finish. I was a big fan of the Irish Rovers when I was a little kid (the Unicorn Song, to die for) and discovering this as an adult almost made me die of happiness...It is a balls-out, drunken, two-fisted fucker of an album. Excellent production values enhance this collection of punk-folk songs. If you don't have this album, your life is not complete. "Dirty Old Town" the way it SHOULD sound!, "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" with the necessary pathos, and when you listen to "The Old Main Drag" with its droning hurdy gurdy you can almost smell the stale urine, spilt drinks and used condoms, and hear the crunching of stilettos on used needles. "A Man You Don't Meet Every Day" subverted brilliantly when sung by a very sexy, velvety female voice. "The Wild Cats of Kilkenny" will make your hair stand on end if you play it loud enough, (I use it as my alarm clock sound, very effective).Every song is great, fresh and sounds like it is EXACTLY the way the song should be. PS- I believe that "pogue" is Irish for "arsehole".
You're close. "Pogue" is the English rendering of the Irish, "póg", which means "kiss". The band's original name was "Pogue Mahone", which was the English rendering of the Irish, "Póg mo Thóin" Irish for "kiss my arse".
