Album

Day of the Dog is the second studio album by Chicago rock musician Ezra Furman. It was released in October 2013 by BarNone Records. It comes after his début solo album The Year of No Returning which follow three albums with his previous backing band The Harpoons, it was recorded with his new backing band The Boyfriends, who formed in 2012 to tour The Year of No Returning. All songs written and composed by Ezra Furman, except The Mall, written and composed by Paul Baribeau. Furman's vintage, Lennon-esque sneer pairs well with the anarchic, sock hop snap of skiffle-kissed ragers like Tell Them All to Go to Hell and I Wanna Destroy Myself, and the addition of saxophone into the mix gives the whole affair a real Modern Lovers-meets-The Rocky Horror Picture Show vibe add in a little Soft Boys and Violent Femmes. Ezra Furman's fifth album is a terrific rock'n'roll record that's full of clever, funny touches, writes Michael Hann. The foundations are obvious, but the simple touches that adorn them are what elevates Day of the Dog. Been So Strange, for example, is the Velvet Underground's chugging R&B reincarnated, but with the delicious addition of a horn section. It leaves you wondering why Lou Reed never thought to do the same, so well does it work. SlackerAdria is nervy, jittery powerpop until two minutes in, when the bottom drops out of the song and it turns into a doomy riff over which Furman appears to be telling us his nightmares: I see white crosses burning across a dark landscape. Album 2013 13 Songs. At the Bottom of the Ocean. 3: Of The Dog. Ezra Furman. Ezra Furman and the Harpoons have released a trio of records over the last few years all three to critical acclaim. Its almost no surprise that Furman would branch out on his own, in theory at least more on that later. But while theres been no word on the status of the Harpoons, its also worth noting that this is actually Furmans second solo record. The Year of No Returning was released to little fanfare last year shortly after 2011s Mysterious Power, his third record with the Harpoons and their most accomplished yet. The album itse.
