The Complete Concert by the Sea Expanded. An album of a Garner performance from 1955 that influenced generations of jazz pianists is reissued and expanded. So is The Complete Concert by the Sea, which was assembled through considerable detective work, in the Sony vault in New York and at the Monterey Jazz Festival, where Garner was a frequent performer. This years Monterey Jazz Festival included a 60th-anniversary tribute to Concert by the Sea, organized by Ms. Allen, with the pianists Jason Moran and Christian Sands. The vision that people had of Erroll in those days was very much down-the-middle, Mr. Rosenthal said at the Magic Shop, his recording and restoration studio in SoHo. Concert by the Sea. Glaser is the one who had the idea to turn the tapes of Garner's September 19, 1955 concert at the Sunset School in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California into a full-fledged album, taking tapes that may have otherwise wound up as a bootleg and turning them over to Columbia. The label whittled the 19-song concert into an 11-track single LP - ColumbiaLegacy's 2015 The Complete Concert by the Sea restores the entirety of the concert over the course of two CDs, adding the original LP as a third - and, by doing so, they wound up distilling Garner's joyous appeal. Iconic Jazz artist Erroll Garner's greatest concert album and one of the best selling jazz albums of all time, The Complete Concert By The Sea celebrates the 60th Anniversary of the original concert from September 19, 1955. The complete live concert recording newly uncovered by the Erroll Garner Jazz Project and digitally remastered in its entirety after six decades is produced by Guggenheim Award-winning jazz pianist and Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Pittsburgh Geri Allen and 4-time GRAMMYAward-winning producer Steve Rosenthal. Thornbury was a recording engineer for the Armed Forces Radio Network on Sept. 19, 1955-the day the pianist performed for servicemen at Fort Ord near Carmel, Calif. Then she called producer George Avakian at Columbia Records to offer it to the label. Concert by the Sea was released a year later on a 12-inch LP with 11 songs culled from the performance. To commemorate the recordings 60th anniversary, Sony is releasing the Complete Concert by the Sea on Sept
